The Hidden Secrets Behind Bad Endings in Honkai Star Rail

Honkai Star Rail is known for its humor, and one of the funniest interactions in the game happens through its alternate bad endings. These endings occur when players choose an option that deviates completely from the main storyline, leading to a fake credit roll and forcing a replay of dialogues.

Since these choices are often morally questionable, many players tend to skip them and follow the main plot. However, a Hoyolab player named Doctor W highlights a compelling reason why you should never ignore bad endings in HSR. Beyond being hilarious, they also reveal hidden character motives and future plot twists.

Hidden Character Motives Are Revealed in Bad Endings

Bad endings often drop subtle hints about a character’s true identity before major plot reveals. A few examples include:

  • Firefly is actually Sam
  • Acheron’s real name is Raiden Bosenmeri Mei
  • Misha is secretly the Watchmaker

Similarly, March 7th’s true identity has remained a mystery since the beginning. The Amphoreus arc continues this trend with:

  • Phainon appearing as “Unknown” in credit rolls
  • Castorice listed with a question mark (Castorice?)

This suggests that both Phainon and Castorice have deeper secrets waiting to be uncovered in future updates.

Additionally, in Amphoreus 3.0’s bad ending, we learn that Black Swan left the Astral Express mysteriously. This implies that her only mission on the Express was related to Amphoreus, hinting at her possible involvement in the world’s story.

Bad Endings Hint at Future Storylines

Apart from revealing character secrets, bad endings often foreshadow upcoming events. For example:

  • March 7th’s sickness worsens after the Trailblazer and Dan Heng return to the Express.
    • This strengthens the theory that the solution to her illness lies in Amphoreus and possibly connects her to the Chrysos Heirs.
  • Amphoreus’ bad ending does not mention Elio in the credit rolls.
    • This could mean that either:
    • Amphoreus is outside of Elio’s script.
    • Elio has no knowledge of this world.

Since even Akivili never Trailblazed into Amphoreus, it is unlikely that the Stellaron Hunters will be involved—at least until Amphoreus opens up to the outside world.

Final Thoughts: Are Bad Endings Worth It?

Skipping bad endings in Honkai Star Rail means missing out on hidden character details and potential future twists. They aren’t just comedic moments but valuable lore-building tools.
